I convinced my sister and brother-in-law to let my niece and I begin blogging. My niece is an avid reader and she writes the occasional poem. Our blog is called InkSpot, and it’s tucked away very privately right now, but I can she as she gets older, that we might emerge into public view (I always say, public is best because there’ s the real audience). Even so, she and I are having a great time writing about reading and writing.
The main focus of our posts lately is the YA novel, East, by Edith Patou. One of her favorites, she recommended it to me. I love it so far. I’m posting my thoughts, my perceptions, my predictions, and she, well, she can barely contain her glee at having me read and write about one of her favorite books.
Now, what if we could do this with each of our students?
No, seriously.
Remember Mortimer Adler and the Great Books program? The premise was that we could learn all we needed to know (that we could learn in school anyway) from reading the great books of human history.
What if there were a school where all we did was read books and write about them with our students?
Seriously. Just that.
What might happen?
